The Cernadilla Dam ( Presa de Cernadilla in Spanish ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the province of Zamora , Spain . It dams the Tera , which forms the border between the municipalities of Cernadilla and Manzanal de Arriba , into a reservoir. The dam is used for power generation and irrigation. It was completed in 1969. The dam is owned and operated by Iberdrola Generacion SA .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 67 (or 68.75) m above the foundation base . The top of the wall lies at a height of 892 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 388 m. The volume of the dam is 301,480 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 63 (or 64) m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 1,100 (or 1129) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 1185 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 889 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 13.94 km² and holds 255 million m³ of water; 233 million m³ of this can be used to generate electricity.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 30 (or 34) MW . The Kaplan turbine was put into operation in 1969. The fall height is 55.60 m. The maximum flow rate is 60 m³ / s. The machine house is at the foot of the dam on the left bank of the river.
