Michal Moda'i (* 1931 in Jerusalem as Michal Har'el ; † March 2, 2012 ) was an Israeli beauty queen and social activist.

Life

Moda'i trained as a kindergarten teacher at a college in Jerusalem and worked in Zichron Jaʿakov . In 1952 she was elected Miss Israel , whereupon she visited New York and was able to collect considerable donations for the benefit of the newly founded Jewish state of Israel. In the year she met her husband Jitzchak Modai. In 1953 her book The Diary of a Beauty Queen was published . In 1968 she started working for the Women's International Zionist Organization , in 1979 she was appointed chairman of this organization in Israel and later headed the world organization. She also held other public positions and was a member of the World Zionist Organization . In 1989 she took part in a diplomatic visit to Guatemala. In 1999 she received an award from the Israeli Prime Minister for her voluntary work. In 2004 she received honorary citizenship of the city of Tel Aviv .

She and her husband have three children.
