Michel Courtemanche

Michel Courtemanche (born December 11, 1964 in Laval , Québec , Canada ) is a French-Canadian stand-up comedian and actor .

Life

Courtemanche began performing in local Canadian cabaret in 1989, gaining a small following that grew over time. In 1987 he made his first appearance at the Montreal International Comedy Festival , Juste pour rire (also known as Just for Laughs ). Here, too, he was one of the most popular artists and appeared again and again in the following years.

Courtemanche largely relies on facial and gestural comedy in his appearances . His success has to do with the very agile face with large eyes and mouth. This makes the figure he represents looks like an exaggerated caricature. Their language is mostly an incomprehensible gibberish, the sound of which fits the typical dialect of the person he is portraying. His most famous sketches are of US golfers , the Russian weightlifter and the Asian Kungfu -Akrobat which a board smashed wants.

In Germany , Courtemanche was best known through Jürgen von der Lippe . When he reported on the Just for Laughs festival for WDR in the Lippes Lachmix series , he and the audience became aware of the French-Canadian. Shortly thereafter, the first appearances in German television programs followed, including in von der Lippe's game show Money or Love . In RTL Saturday night Courtemanche was a recurring guest star and even got its own special with excerpts from his program.

After a nervous breakdown in front of an audience in 1997 and subsequently diagnosed with bipolar disorder , Courtemanche ended his career as a comedian.

In the short-lived series The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne , he played Phileas Fogg's servant Passepartout. According to George Lucas, he was the first choice for the role of Jar Jar Binks in the science fiction adventure Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace .

Michel Courtemanche now also works behind the camera and is responsible for the production of the French-Canadian sitcom Caméra café .
