Mick Buckley
Michael John "Mick" Buckley (born November 4, 1953 in Manchester , † October 7, 2013 in Whitefield ) was an English football player .
Athletic career
Buckley began his professional career at Everton , for which he made his debut in the First Division in March 1972 . In the season 1973/74 he advanced under the new coach Billy Bingham to a regular player, with a seventh place the club occupied a single-digit place in the table after four years. At the same time, he developed into a selection player in the English youth field. After a fourth place in the table the following year - Buckley had played 31 of the 42 season games - the club slipped after moderate results in the middle of the table and in February 1977 the club hired a new head coach with Gordon Lee . As a result, Buckley, plagued by injuries, was only used irregularly due to competition from Andy King and Trevor Ross .
In the summer of 1978 Buckley moved to the Second Division for AFC Sunderland after 135 league games for Everton . Initially under Jimmy Adamson and under his successor Billy Elliott also a regular here, he moved into the second ranks under Ken Knighton . When he was promoted at the end of the 1979/80 season , he was only partially involved, after Knighton's dismissal in 1981, he was then set up again more often.
1983 Buckley moved to Hartlepool United , but stayed there only a few weeks and moved to Carlisle United in the Second Division. After only one season, he moved within the second division to Middlesbrough FC . There he ended his active career in 1985.
Buckley was an alcoholic , and as a result of the illness his marriage broke up and he lost his job and home. With support from the Everton Former Players Foundation , he was treated at the Sporting Chance Clinic in Liphook . After a long illness he died shortly before his 60th birthday.
