Microporus nigrita ( Syn .: Aethus nigritus ) is a bug from the family of earth bugs (Cydnidae).

features

The bugs are 4.1 to 5.2 millimeters long and are dark maroon to shiny black in color, with the body usually lined with a lighter shade. The membranes of the hemielytres are yellowish in color, the legs are reddish brown. The animals have two small thorns on their heads, the head and the pronotum are lined with bristles.

Distribution and way of life

The species is widespread in the Palearctic and occurs from the Mediterranean to southern Scandinavia and east to China and the Oriental . In Germany and Austria the species occurs only sparsely and is rarer in the north and west than Byrsinus flavicornis , more common in the east. Sandy habitats are settled, where the bedbugs are buried under plant cushions and often buried just below the surface. They can also be seen walking around on sandy paths. At night they fly to artificial light sources. The way of life of the species hardly differs from that of Byrsinus flavicornis . They suck on the roots of grasses.

The species was introduced to North America. In 1977 the species was first detected in the US state of Delaware .
