Microsoft Office Document Imaging

The Microsoft Office Document Imaging ( MODI ) is one of the Office Tools of Microsoft Office and allows scanning documents and their processing. Text recognition is also included.

The documents are saved in the .MDI file format , which was developed by Microsoft . Alternatively, it can be saved in the .TIF file format . Files in MDI format are generated with the Microsoft Office Document Imaging printer driver. This is part of the Microsoft Office 2003 package. The MDI should not be confused with the Microsoft XPS Document Writer (.XPS) file format , which can be seen as a direct competitor from Microsoft to Adobe's PDF .

Microsoft Office Document Imaging is not installed automatically in Office 2007 , but can be installed later ( Office Tools group ). This feature is no longer included in Office 2010 - however, text recognition of a previously scanned image can still be carried out from One Note 2010 ("Copy text from image" in the context menu). In addition, Microsoft Office Document Imaging offers a programming interface that enables access to the scanned documents and the reading of the recognized text via the Component Object Model (COM) . This interface is included for the first time in Office 2003 .
