Microsoft SharePoint Designer is a site, workflow and template editing program that runs under Microsoft SharePoint ( Microsoft SharePoint Server and Microsoft SharePoint Foundation ). It is part of the Microsoft SharePoint product family. Microsoft SharePoint Designer was originally part of the Microsoft Office 2007 product line, but was never part of an Office suite.

overview

Range of functions

Microsoft SharePoint Designer , together with Microsoft Expression Web, is the successor to Microsoft Frontpage for editing websites. While Microsoft Expression Web can be used entirely to create any web page, Microsoft SharePoint Designer is specifically designed for creating and editing web pages in SharePoint. It offers more control than the built-in editing capabilities in SharePoint.

While the first version from 2007 could still be used as an independent HTML editor, Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2010 and 2013 can only be used in combination with SharePoint.

distribution

The first version was initially sold commercially and since March 31, 2009, SharePoint Designer 2007 has been offered free of charge. The current version 2013 appeared together with SharePoint 2013 on October 12, 2012.

technology

Microsoft SharePoint Designer uses the same code base as its twin product Microsoft Expression Web and shares both the user interface and the same HTML engine for rendering pages.
