Microsoft Office 2007 (officially called the 2007 Microsoft Office System ) is an Office suite from Microsoft from the Microsoft Office series. Microsoft Office 2010 is the successor to Microsoft Office 2007 . Mainstream support ended on October 9, 2012. B. with security updates ended on October 11, 2017.
Innovations

The classic menu structure and the usual toolbars known from previous Office versions have been replaced by a multi-function bar ( ribbon ). Frequently required functions should be accessible more quickly. The ribbon contains commands organized in groups. These are supplemented by list boxes and dialog boxes. These elements are summarized in individual tabs. The standard registers of an office application are supplemented by further registers that are available depending on the situation. There are two types of the latter: program tabs are available in certain view modes , context tabs show commands that are only available in certain situations, for example when working with graphics, tables and diagrams.
Another new feature are the so-called live previews : format functions, templates and designs are displayed in a real-time preview in the document window.
File formats and compatibility
With OpenXML , Microsoft is introducing a new, XML- based standard file format. Older versions of Microsoft Office (Microsoft Office versions 2000, XP and 2003) can process this format with a free converter ( Compatibility Pack ). For Mac OS X there is a corresponding format converter for Microsoft Office 2004; In addition, the free office packages NeoOffice and OpenOffice.org are able to open Office 2007 files.
Microsoft Office 2007 can also save documents in the so-called "compatibility mode" in the old file formats introduced with Office 97, which means that they can be read with older Office versions for Windows and Mac OS without tools. In this mode, functions that were not available in the old Word version are not available. This concerns z. B. Alternative texts for tables or new WordArt effects.
Microsoft Office 2007 introduced a new export format called XPS ( XML Paper Specification ) that is similar to PDF . After differences with Adobe, the PDF export function, which was still integrated in Beta 2, was removed in the final version. However, a free add-in can be installed that enables saving in PDF and XPS formats from within the applications. Since Service Pack 2 it is possible to save documents in OpenDocument format; the PDF and XPS export has been integrated again.
Launch
In 2005 Microsoft announced a new version of Office under the code name "Office 12" as the successor to Office 2003. Office 2007 was launched on January 30, 2007 at the same time as the Windows Vista operating system . Office 2007, like Vista, was made available to business customers in November 2006.
From May 23, 2006, Beta 2 was presented by Bill Gates on the occasion of WinHEC . It was made available for testing as part of the most extensive Microsoft beta program to date and was downloaded more than 3.5 million times worldwide between the end of May and the end of October 2006, 500,000 of them in Germany alone.
On September 14, 2006, a technical refresh for Beta 2 was published. With this, a few changes were made to the user interface , which now corresponds to the finished product. Beta 2 bugs have also been fixed so that the product is now more stable.
The beta phase ended on October 30, 2006, the beta versions can no longer be downloaded. Beta 2 versions that had already been installed without a technical refresh could only be used to their full functionality until February 1, 2007; beta 2 versions with a technical refresh were fully usable until March 31, 2007. Since this date, the programs contained in the version have only been running with functional restrictions.
With the "Release to Manufacturing" (RTM) on November 8, 2006, the development is completed. Office 2007 has been available for companies since the end of November 2006 and for individual users since January 30, 2007. Since October 26, Microsoft has been providing a technology guarantee that computers purchased from this date with a full version of Office 2003 can be upgraded to Office 2007 (es processing fees apply). Under the Microsoft Office 2010 Technology Guarantee, buyers of Office 2007 automatically received a free upgrade license to Microsoft Office 2010 until October 31, 2010 if they purchased Office 2007 after March 5, 2010.

Office 2007 no longer includes FrontPage. It is being replaced by Microsoft Expression for creating websites for the Internet and SharePoint Designer for designing SharePoint pages primarily for the intranet.
