Mida Records
Mida Records was an American record label , that of Henry Stone in Miami ( Florida was founded).
history
prehistory
Henry Stone entered the record business as an entrepreneur in the late 1940s. Within a few years he became the most successful and powerful man on Miami's music scene. Stone started out as a record dealer and later built a small recording studio behind a record store. There he recorded country and blues musicians, whose songs he released on his short-lived labels.
Foundation of Mida
In 1957 the last single appeared on Stone's previous main label Chart Records , so he founded a new one in 1958, which he called Mida . The first release was Curly Jim Morrison with his new recording of Rock and Roll Itch . Morrison had already recorded the song a year earlier at Metro Records - but when the label had to close, he switched to Mida.
Midas releases were now mainly limited to rock 'n' roll , rockabilly and country.
The End
At the end of the 1950s, Stone had built a strong base in southern Florida with his music publisher Sherlyn Music and the takeover of the King sublabel De-Luxe Records and the operation of the distribution company Tone together with the DJ Milt Oshins. Nevertheless, he ended the Mida label in 1962. The last single came out with Buddy Howard's Be Sure You Know / Take Your Hands Off Me, Baby in August 1962. Mida had released a total of 15 singles between 1958 and 1962.
