Midgham is a village and civil parish in West Berkshire in England .

St. Matthew Church

location

It lies in the valley of the River Kennet , about 4 km east of Newbury, Berkshire and west of London . In 2001 it had 282 inhabitants. With Woolhampton it shares the station ( Midgham railway station ) on the railway line Reading - Plymouth .

history

Midgham had its own chapel from around 1309, which stood not far from the current Midgham House building. The current 13th century church of St. Matthew was built in 1869 by the architect John Johnson. Midgham was part of the parish of Newbury until 1857 until 1857. The first vicar was then Rev. John Errington after the church was built. The church is now part of a parish with St. Peter, Woolhampton and St. Mary in Beenham.
