Kennet was a district in the county of Wiltshire in England that was named after the River Kennet . The administrative seat was Devizes ; other important places were Marlborough , Pewsey and Ramsbury .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Municipal Boroughs Devizes and Marlborough and the Rural Districts Devizes, Marlborough and Ramsey and Pewsey.
On April 1, 2009, in addition to Kennet, all other districts in Wiltshire were abolished and united in the new Wiltshire Unitary Authority .
