West Wiltshire was a district in the county of Wiltshire in England . The administrative seat was Trowbridge ; other significant places were Atworth , Bradford-on-Avon , Longleat , Melksham , Warminster and Westbury .
The borough was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the urban districts of Bradford-on-Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury and the rural districts of Bradford and Melksham and Warminster and Westbury .
On April 1, 2009, in addition to West Wiltshire, all other districts in Wiltshire were abolished and united in the new Wiltshire Unitary Authority .
