Bradford is a few miles south-east of Bath , in the rolling countryside between the Mendip Hills , Salisbury Plain and the Cotswolds .
The city is on the Bath - Weymouth railway line , which opened in the mid-19th century. The station was completed a few years earlier. The route was then laid out by the First Great Western Link . Going north, you will pass Avoncliff and Freshford and join the Great Western Main Line . The trains mostly run to Bristol Temple Meads station and often even to Cardiff . Head south via Trowbridge and cross the main Plymouth - London line at Westbury / Wiltshire and continue towards Southampton .
The Kennet and Avon Canal runs parallel to the railway line and connects to the Avon at Bath to the west and the Thames at Reading to the east.
