North Wiltshire was a district in the county of Wiltshire in England . The administrative seat was Chippenham ; other important places were Calne and Malmesbury .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the municipal boroughs Chippenham, Calne and Malmesbury and the rural districts of Calne and Chippenham, Cricklade and Wootton Bassett and Malmesbury.

On April 1, 2009, in addition to North Wiltshire, all other districts in Wiltshire were abolished and united in the new Wiltshire Unitary Authority .
