Mieko Kanai

Mieko Kanai ( Japanese 金井 美 恵 子 , Kanai Mieko ; born November 3, 1947 in Takasaki ) is a Japanese writer.

Kanai began writing poetry and short stories in 1966 after attending the "Takasaki Girls 'High School in Gunma Prefecture" ( 群 馬 県 立 高崎 女子 高等学校 , Girls' High School in her hometown) and was born in 1967 with the story Ai no seikatsu ( 愛 の 生活 , "Leben in Liebe"), which appeared in the literary magazine Tembō in the same year , was nominated for the Dazai Osamu Prize . The following year, the critically acclaimed stories Shizen no kodomo ( 自然 の 子 供 ) and Eonta ( エ オ ン タ ) appeared, and Kanai received the Gendaishi Techo Prize for her lyrical works . She published her first volume of poetry in 1971 under the title Madamu Juju no ie ( マ ダ ム ・ ジ ュ ジ ュ の 家 , "The House of Madame Juju").

1970 Kanai's short story Yume no jikan ( 夢 の 時間 , "Time of Dreams") was nominated for the Akutagawa Prize . For the volume of stories Puraton-teki ren'ai ( プ ラ ト ン 的 恋愛 , "Platonic Love", 1979) she received the Izumi-Kyōka Literature Prize . In 1985 her first novel Bunshō kyōshitsu ( 文章 教室 ) was published. For Tama-ya ( タ マ や , "The Cat Tama", 1987) Kanai was awarded the Women's Literature Prize.
