Characteristic

  • From the address given by Gerth, Rector of the König Albert-Gymnasium, in the parenting hall of the Gohliser Friedhof on January 4, 1909:

Our late friend had a warm heart for the youth, as an educator by the grace of God, who is indulgent to weakness and clumsiness, mild to youthful hastiness and carelessness, strict only to everything low and ignoble; It was just an outgrowth of the kindness of his heart that he would rather acknowledge than rebuke, that he gladly took goodwill for action, that in addition to what had failed in his pupils he also sought and found the good in his pupils; but this gentleness of his has never become a weakness, and a word of reproach from him was more effective than severe punishments could have.
