Migazine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Migazin ( own spelling MiGAZIN ) is an online specialist magazine that focuses on the topics of integration and migration in Germany. The aim of the Migazin is to promote intercultural communication between people with and without a migration background and to critically accompany the local integration process. The Migazin wants to convey "topics that are interesting for people with a migration background to German-speaking readers". Migazin was founded as a voluntary initiative and has been financed by advertising income and donations since 2010. Since the introduction of a membership model in March 2020, Migazin has also received financial support from its readers.

New articles appear every day in the Migazin. According to the company, it reaches up to 300,000 readers per month (as of 2018). Migazin was inspired by and initiated by Ekrem Şenol , who has been editor-in-chief and publisher since it was founded in January 2009 . Political scientist Hakan Demir was co-editor between 2013 and 2015 . There are also several dozen freelance authors whose articles are published in Migazin.

In June 2012 Migazin received the Grimme Online Award in the Information category. The jury justified its decision as follows: “ There is a lot of talk about migrants and migration in Germany. Especially by Germans. In the chorus of many and often very loud voices, however, those of the migrants are mostly missing. And it is precisely this gap that Migazin fills with high-quality texts and comprehensible reporting ”.

Migazin books bestseller

Since October 2018, Migazin has published a bestseller list that lists the best-selling books on the topics of flight, migration, integration, exclusion and right-wing extremism. The bestsellers are created using an algorithm developed by Migazin. The data basis is the ranking of the best-selling books on Amazon .

Excluded from the list are “authors, books and publishers who openly propagate and disseminate right-wing extremist ideas and prejudices, as well as books that meet other criteria in this sense. School books, cookbooks, comics, illustrated books, travel guides as well as books for children and young people are also excluded, provided they do not go beyond these target groups and do not reach adults ”.
