Mighty Bomb Jack

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mighty Bomb Jack is an arcade game that was later released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) (1987 by Tecmo ), and then also for Amiga , Atari ST and Commodore 64 . It is the sequel to Bomb Jack (1984). The game is also available for Wii and Nintendo 3DS via Virtual Console .

Gameplay

The hero of the game, Jack, has to complete 16 levels of a pyramid in order to defeat the demon Belzebut and save the royal Pamera family.

Each level is divided into 2 parts - an action zone and a royal palace room. The game mechanics of the palace rooms are taken from the previous game. Action zones can be divided into several sections and contain power-ups hidden in treasure chests : money bags, mighty coins and mighty drinks. Mighty Coins allow Jack to take on a different color; Blue allows you to open orange boxes. Orange allows any box to be opened by simply touching it from the side. Green turns the enemies on the screen into coins for 5 seconds.

Mighty drinks give the player 10 seconds extra time. Secret areas can be found in the action zones, activated by finding a sphinx in a visible or invisible treasure chest.

To prevent the player from becoming too “greedy”, he is automatically sent to a “torture room” if he has more than 9 Mighty Coins or more than 99 seconds on the timer. The only way to leave this room without losing your life is by making a series of jumps that are counted on the screen. If the player escaped from the "torture room", Jack automatically loses all Mighty Coins, the timer is set to 60 and the current level starts all over again.

A Vs. Series version of the game was released on the Japanese market in 1986 (not to be confused with the original arcade version); a few changes had been made: two-player mode, position of some secret areas, removal of a warp trick in the palace rooms (In the NES version, Jack could teleport to the next palace room if he touched the first burning bomb in the current room after the other 23 were collected)

Mighty Bomb Jack made a guest appearance on the Tecmo Super Bowl during the Super Bowl halftime show.
