Miguel García (anarchist)

Miguel García (* 1908 in Barcelona ; † 1981 ) was a Spanish anarchist , activist, forger , writer and political prisoner under the regime of Francisco Franco .

García first worked as a newspaper seller, then as a printer. He was a member of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), which was the largest anarchist organization in Spain at the time.

In the Spanish Civil War he fought in the anarchist militias. During World War II , he was part of a resistance network that enabled French Jews and Allied soldiers to flee from France to Spain. As a former printer he became a specialist in the forging of documents, he also received training from the British secret service.

After 1945 he was part of the ongoing resistance to Franco's regime. He was arrested in 1949 and sentenced to death , in 1952 the sentence was changed to twenty years in prison.

In 1969, after his release, he was invited by the Scottish anarchist Stuart Christie , whom he had met in prison, to move to London. He then worked with Christie on the Anarchist Black Cross (ABC) to support anarchist prisoners, especially in Spain. In 1972 his autobiography, Franco's Prisoner , was published.
