Miguel Nicolelis

Miguel Angelo Laporta Nicolelis (born March 7, 1961 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian doctor and neuroscientist .

In 1984 he was at the University of São Paulo Dr. med. PhD; In 1989 he also did a Ph.D. at the Institute for Biomedical Science there. He then did a postdoc at the Drexel University Medical Center . In 1994 he moved to Duke University as an assistant professor , where he was promoted to associate professor in 1998 and full professor in 2001. In 2009 he was awarded the Neuronal Plasticity Prize , for 2017 he was awarded the IEEE Daniel E. Noble Award .

In January 2011 he was called by Pope Benedict XVI. as a full member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences .
