Miguel Ángel Ruiz [ miˈgɛl ˈaŋhɛl ru̯is ] (* 1952 ) is a Mexican neo- shaman and author who invokes Toltec traditions and has received media attention in the USA.

According to himself, Miguel Ruiz attended a Mexican university and then worked "with his brother" as a neurosurgeon. A near-death experience prompted him to study the teachings of his Toltec ancestors. His mother Sarita, a curandera (healer), and his grandfather, a shaman, were his teachers.

Ruiz's best-known book is The Four Promises (1997). The "four promises" are life advice:

  1. Choose your words wisely and be impeccable with your word
  2. Don't take things personally
  3. Don't jump to conclusions
  4. Always do your best

Ruiz wrote other books, including the book Perfection in Love , which is available in German . He speaks English as Spanish and lectures, seminars and "power trips" ( Power Journeys ) to "holy" places on earth, especially after Teotihuacán . He currently lives and works in Las Vegas . After a heart attack, he handed over the teaching job to his son Don José Luis Ruiz .
