Mihai Cocea

Mihai Cocea (* 1990 in Bucharest , Romania) is a Romanian violist living in Switzerland.

biography

Cocea was born in Bucharest in 1990. There he attended the George Enescu University, where he was a student with Dmitru Ene. He is currently studying with Lawrence Power at the Zurich University of the Arts and with Paul Silverthorne at the Royal Academy of Music.

Mihai Cocea has won numerous Romanian and international prizes, including the main prize and the prize for the interpretation of a contemporary work in Breaza in 2005, the 2nd prize at the Delius competition in London in 2008, a 3rd prize at the Watson-Forbes viola competition and the Participation in the semi-finals of the Windsor String Competition in 2011.

He attended master classes with numerous important contemporary violists such as Juri Baschmet , Maxim Rysanov , Marius Ungureanu , Bruno Giuranna and others. Appearances with Maxim Vengerov, Alexander Sitkowetsky, Bruno Giuranna and others.

In January 2013, Cocea reached the final of the Juri Bashmet viola competition in Moscow.

Cocea plays a 1780 French viola made by Salomon on loan from the Royal Academy of Music.
