Mihai Cioc
Mihai Cioc (born June 14, 1961 in Turnu Măgurele ) is a former Romanian judoka . He competed in heavyweight or in the open class, in 1987 he was European heavyweight champion.
The 1.84 n tall Mihai Cioc was second in the 1978 European Youth Championships. At the 1980 Olympic tournament in Moscow , he was eliminated in his second fight against the British Paul Bradburn . In 1983 he reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Moscow, where he was defeated by Willy Wilhelm from the Netherlands ; the battle for bronze won Mihai Cioc against the Canadian Mark Berger .
In 1984 he joined the European Championships in Liège in both heavyweight and open class. In the heavyweight division he finished seventh after a defeat by Willy Wilhelm, in the open class he won the bronze medal against the British Elvis Gordon . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Cioc only competed in the open class. In the quarterfinals he was defeated by the Egyptian Mohamed Ali Rashwan , and he won the battle for the bronze medal against the Chinese Xu Guoqing .
1985 Mihai Cioc lost in the heavyweight finals of the Universiade in Kobe against the North Korean Hwang Jae-gil . At the European Championships in 1986, he finished seventh. The following year he reached the European heavyweight championship final and won this fight against the Swiss Clemens Jehle . His last top placements at an international tournament reached Cioc in October 1987 at the open Yugoslav championships with a second place in the heavyweight division and third place in the open class.
1986 Cioc won his only Romanian championship in heavyweight.
