Mihhail Kõlvart (born November 24, 1977 in Ksyl-Orda , Kazakh SSR ) is an Estonian - Korean athlete and politician.

Life

Mihhail Kõlvart was born into an Estonian-Korean family. He moved to the Estonian SSR with his parents when he was three . His mother tongue is Russian .

Kõlvart graduated from school in the Estonian capital Tallinn in 1995 . In 2000 he began studying law at a private university in Tallinn, and in 2004 studying business law at another private Tallinn university.

Sports

Mihhail Kõlvart made a name for himself above all as a national and international top athlete in the disciplines of boxing , kickboxing and Taekwondo (black belt). From 1993 he worked as a Taekwondo trainer in Tallinn. In 1996 he was elected President of the Estonian National Taekwondo Federation. In 2016 he became a member of the Executive Committee of the Estonian Olympic Committee .

From 1999 to 2002 he was a member of the Lasnamäe District Council of Tallinn . In 2008 Mihhail Kõlvart joined the Estonian Center Party . In 2009 he was elected to the city council of the Estonian capital Tallinn. He was particularly committed to youth and sport as well as the rights of ethnic minorities in Estonia. In the Estonian parliamentary election, 2011 , he was in the Riigikogu voted. In April 2011 he renounced his parliamentary seat in favor of the post of Deputy Mayor of Tallinn. From 2017 to 2019 he was chairman of Tallinn City Council. He was elected Mayor of Tallinn in April 2019.

Private

Mihhail Kõlvart's father, Ülo Kõlvart (born 1942 in Pärnu ) was the founder of the Estonian National Taekwondo Association in 1992 and its first president from 1992 to 1996. His mother was the teacher and Tallinn honorary citizen Liidia Kõlvart (born Shek, 1942–2014).
