Lasnamäe is a district in the northeast of the Estonian capital Tallinn , about 5 km from the center.

location

Lasnamäe is on the Lasnamägi (German Laaksberg ), a Klint from limestone overlooking the Baltic Sea . The first settlement of the area could be proven for the time of the cord ceramic .

architecture

Between 1976 and 1991 a huge prefabricated housing estate was built in Lasnamäe . The approximately 650 houses have 5 to 16 storeys. Lasnamäe was designed as a model settlement for 200,000 people with all the amenities of the time. However, parts of the infrastructure and recreational opportunities got stuck in the planning phase. For example, the tram line planned as the main connection to the city center was never built, and the six lanes of Laagna Street, originally planned as an extension of the motorway between Tallinn and Saint Petersburg , which divides Lasnamäe in half, end in two lanes in Priisle . For several years, however, work has been carried out to complete the settlement; For example, in November 2009 Pae Park was inaugurated as a greening of a disused quarry, and work on the tram line is to be continued in the foreseeable future.
