Loopealse (in German "the Alvar [area]") is a district ( Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn . It is located in the Lasnamäe district (German "Laaksberg").

The city district has 2,048 inhabitants (as of May 1, 2010).

The cityscape is still dominated by prefabricated high-rises in the Soviet style . In addition, numerous five to eight-story new buildings are currently being built in Loopealse. Due to its location on a limestone mountain, the place offers a good view of the Baltic Sea .

In Loopealse, around the 1800 m² “Patriarch Alexius II Square” ( Patriarh Aleksius II väljak ) stands one of the largest new Orthodox churches in Estonia. Alexius II. (1929–2008) was Patriarch of Moscow and all of Russia from 1990 until his death and thus head of the Russian Orthodox Church . He was from Tallinn.
