Haabersti is a district of the Estonian capital Tallinn .

Haabersti is located in the west of Tallinn on the Baltic Sea coast. The district has an area of 18.6 km². 39,587 people live in it (as of January 1, 2008).
Haabersti is divided into twelve districts: Astangu , Haabersti , Kakumäe , Mustjõe , Mäeküla , Õismäe , Pikaliiva , Rocca al Mare , Tiskre , Väike-Õismäe , Veskimetsa and Vismeistri . Lake Harku is also in the area .
The population is mixed Estonian and Russian-speaking in roughly equal proportions (50.2% Estonian, 47.3% Russian). The proportion of the Russian-speaking population is particularly high in the residential areas with large prefabricated buildings such as Väike-Õismäe and Astangu that were built during the Soviet era. In contrast, the ethnic Estonians dominate in the districts such as Kakumäe, Vismeistri or Tiskre, which are characterized by individual house development.
Haabersti is home to the Estonian Open Air Museum ( Estonian Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum ) with its large ethnographic collection of Estonian peasant buildings and tools, the Tallinn Zoo and the multi-purpose hall Saku Suurhall .
