Laagna is a district ( Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn . It is located in the Lasnamäe district (German "Laaksberg").

description

The city district has 24,440 inhabitants (as of May 1, 2010).

Soulless prefabricated high-rise buildings in the Soviet style dominate the cityscape . The satellite town was built in the 1970s and 1980s after an all-Soviet competition for urban planning in 1969. The aim of the Soviet Estonian architects around Mart Port , Malle Meelak , Irina Raud and others was to create modern living space for the massive settlement of Russian-speaking populations from other parts of the Soviet Union .

A six-lane expressway ( Laagna tee ) between Lasnamäe and Tallinn city center, which is crossed by numerous bridges, divides the city district into two parts. It was blasted six to seven meters deep into the limestone. During the Soviet era, the ten-kilometer-long city motorway was called the October Prospectus . It is popularly called "The Canal". The construction of a tram route was actually planned for the median, but this was never realized. Local public transport is organized with buses.
