Kompassi (in German " Kompass ") is a district ( Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn . It is located in the Kesklinn district ("inner city").

Description and history

Kompassi has 2,018 inhabitants (as of May 1, 2010).

There are numerous modern new buildings in Kompassi that were built after Estonian independence was regained. These include the modern Viru keskus shopping center and Hotell Tallinnk .

The Estonian Art Academy ( Eesti Kunstiakadeemia ), founded in 1914, was housed in Kompassi until 2009 . Since 2009 it has been based in the former house of the Estonian knighthood on Toompea .
