Mäeküla (Tallinn)
Mäeküla is a municipality ( Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn .
Location and history
The district is located in the southwest of the Haabersti district .
Mäeküla is one of the most sparsely populated districts in Tallinn. It has 5 residents (as of May 1, 2010).
During the First World War , the tsarist authorities developed plans to build a large sea fortress, which would also include Mäeküla as a large ammunition depot. Some military buildings were built, but they are abandoned today. The area is largely left to nature again. The tunnels created by the tsarist army in 1917 under the rocky underground are a destination for adventure tourists.
