Keldrimäe
Keldrimäe (in German "Kellerberg") is a district ( Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn . It is located in the Kesklinn district ("inner city").
description
Keldrimäe has 4,445 inhabitants (as of May 1, 2010). The city district is largely dominated by Soviet residential buildings. In addition, some more representative buildings in the style of socialist classicism were built in the 1950s .
The Tallinn Central Market ( Tallinna keskturg ) is also located in Keldrimäe , where mainly fruit and vegetables are for sale.
Church of the Kazan Mother of God
Opposite the Hotel Olümpia is the small Orthodox "Church of Our Lady of Kazan " (Estonian Kaasani Jumalaema Sünni Kirik ). After the conquest of Estonia by the Tsar in 1721, it was built as a Russian garrison church on the edge of what was then the inner city and moved to its current location in 1749. The church is the oldest wooden religious building that has survived in Tallinn.
The interior has been designed in the classicism style since the 19th century . Icon cabinets in Empire style complement it . The iconostasis has baroque features. The oldest icons date from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Memorial plaques commemorate the Russian fallen in the wars against Napoleon (1812) and against Japan (1904/05).
The orthodox character of the baroque bell tower is emphasized by the onion dome. The community is now subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate .
