Mihran Nakkashian

Mihran Nakkashian (* 1850 in Kayseri / Ottoman Empire; † 1944 in Nice / France) was an Armenian editor and publicist in Istanbul. He rose from administrative director to owner of the Sabah newspaper .

Mihran Nakkashian was the editor of the scientist and linguist Schemseddin Sami (1850-1904). His six-volume Ottoman encyclopedia Kamusü l-a'lâm was published in 1889–1898. It is the authoritative and most understandable general encyclopedia in the Ottoman language . Various attempts by other publicists to publish an encyclopedia had previously failed.

From 1882 to 1922 Nakkashian was the owner of the daily Sabah . Mihran Nakkashian left Turkey in 1922 and went to France, where he took the name Nakkaşoğlu .
