The Mihrimah Mosque in Uskudar

The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque (also Iskele Mosque, Turkish Mihrimah Sultan Camii , also İskele Camii ) is a mosque designed by the architect Sinan in the Üsküdar district in the Asian part of Istanbul, directly at the ferry terminal, hence the name Iskele (Turkish for ferry terminal). The Iskele Mosque is a symbol of Üsküdar.

The mosque is one of two places of worship donated by Mihrimah Sultan , the daughter of Sultan Suleyman I and wife of the Grand Vizier Riistem Pasha . The second mosque is located in the Edirnekapı district . The building was constructed by the architect Sinan between 1546 and 1548 .

For lack of space, Sinan decided not to have a courtyard near the mosque, instead he constructed a protruding roof that also spans the cleaning well . The double portico used here should from now on appear in variations in numerous mosques. The mosque was built as a four-pillar mosque with a square floor plan, two minarets and three half-domes, the central dome of the mosque has a diameter of ten meters.

The foundation complex included a medrese , an inn and a soup kitchen as well as the Türben of the pashas Sinaneddin Yusuf Paşa and İbrahim Ethem Paşa.
