Mikazuki Munechika

Mikazuki Munechika ( Japanese 三 日月 宗 近 ) is a Japanese Tachi sword and a national treasure of Japan . The sword belongs to the tenka-goken ("five best swords under the sky"). According to legend, the Mikazuki was made by the swordsmith Sanjō Munechika ( 三条 宗 近 ) in the Heian period . It is one of the oldest and most beautiful preserved swords of the tenka-goken . The name Mikazuki came about because crescent-shaped elements adorn the hamon . The Mikazuki has a blade length of approx. 80.0 centimeters and a sori of 2.7 centimeters.
