Michael McCormack "Mike" Lafferty (born May 20, 1948 in Eugene , Oregon ) is a retired American ski racer . Lafferty was briefly one of the best downhill skiers in his country in the early 1970s.

His breakthrough to the top of the world began in 1969 when he won the US championship in downhill skiing. Between December 1969 and January 1973, he was able to place a total of eleven times in the top ten at World Cup races . He achieved his best result in February 1972 on the downhill from Crystal Mountain , where he finished second behind the Swiss Bernhard Russi . In the overall ranking of the Ski World Cup, Lafferty came ninth in the 1971/72 season . In the downhill classification he was third this season.

Lafferty took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo and finished 14th in the downhill.
