Microgamont
Mikrogamont (syn. Microgametocyte ) are cells that appear at the beginning of sexual reproduction ( gamogony ) of the apicomplexa . It is a multinucleated division body which is the starting point for the male sperm cells, which are micro- gametes .
Microgamonts arise from schizonts after asexual reproduction and can be significantly larger than schizonts or the female macrogamonts . In the case of malaria pathogens , the microgametocytes are also sickle-shaped like the female macrogametocytes, but have a somewhat clumsier shape and a larger nucleus . In a microgamont, the microgametes, which are arranged around a residual body, are created by continuous cell nucleus divisions. The microgametes, movable by flagella, are chemotactically attracted by the macrogamete . The zygote is created with the fusion of one male and one female sperm cell .
