Microplate
In geology and plate tectonics, a small earth crust plate is called a microplate .
she can
- exist as such to this day and be in recent movement (e.g. the Adriatic Plate or parts of Anatolia )
- or have pushed themselves as a fossil small plate on or under a larger formation - z. B. In the age of the Carboniferous the smallest continents Armorica (Brittany, England) or Perunica (Bohemian mass).
In the first case, their edges are mostly at risk of earthquakes , in the second case, however, hardly any. In many cases, fossil microplates have the shape of rump mountains .
