Milan Čop

Milan Čop (born October 5, 1938 in Slavonski Brod ) is a former Croatian - Yugoslav football player . The defensive player was under contract with Red Star Belgrade for a few years in the 1960s before he later played for two US professional teams and AS Nancy . In 1963/64 he also came to six missions for the Yugoslav national team , as well as four missions at the Olympic football tournament in 1964 .

Čop began his career at BSK Slavonski Brod before moving to the top Yugoslav club Roter Stern in 1962, where he quickly matured to become a regular and national player and was both cup winner and champion in 1964; Overall, he scored two goals in 92 league games for Red Star. In 1967 he was recruited by the Oakland Clippers of the newly formed National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) , with whom he immediately became US champions. In the second year with the Clippers, now in the North American Soccer League (NASL) , the championship could not be defended, but Čop was elected to the 2nd All-Star Team of the league; when the Clippers retired from league operations after the season, he would have scored seven goals in 42 games and he moved to Ligue 1 in Nancy for two years . In 1974 he returned for another year to the NASL, where he was only used four times for the San José Earthquakes .
