Milan Hejný (born May 23, 1936 , Martin ) is a Czech and Slovak mathematician and mathematics teacher . He works at the Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University in Prague .

Life

Hejný graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague. He then works at ČVUT in Prague, VŠD in Žilina and MFF in Bratislava. Since 1991 he has been working at the Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, where he is a professor. From the mid-1970s he developed a new didactic method for mathematics, the so-called Hejný method . It is left to the pupils ( primary school ) to develop their own mathematical concepts without the intervention of the teacher, for which they are provided with specific aids, for example in the form of geometric models and building blocks. The aim is to develop a mental network of mathematical schemes in the children. A first textbook based on it was approved by the Czech Ministry of Education in 2007 and others followed (for this purpose Hejný founded the H-Mat publishing house).
