Milatos
Milatos (Μίλατος) was an ancient city in Crete .
Milatos was probably founded in archaic times. Settlers from Milatos are said to have founded Miletus in Ionia ( Asia Minor ). In the sixth century BC, border disputes with Dreros , which lies south of the city, are attested. From the years 259 to 250 BC A treaty between Milatos and Miletus dates back to the 4th century BC. In 220 BC The city is said to have been destroyed by the neighboring village of Lyktos . The city may have had its own port, but it has not yet been identified with certainty.
The remains of the ancient city are now about 1.5 km northeast of the modern village of the same name, which is a popular destination for boat tours. Excavations have not yet taken place. However, the remains of houses can be seen on the surface.
