Karl Fiehn

Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Fiehn (born May 5, 1888 in Berlin , † spring 1945 near Angermünde ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

Karl Fiehn, the son of the headmaster Karl Fiehn and his wife Berta Walter, attended the Luisenstädtisches Gymnasium in Berlin. After graduating from school, he studied Protestant theology and classical philology in Berlin from the winter semester 1906/07 to the summer semester 1911 . He spent the summer semester of 1908 at the University of Tübingen . On October 28 and 29, 1912, he passed the teaching examinations in religion, Latin and Greek for all levels with the grade “good”. At Easter 1913 Fiehn started the seminar year at the Leibniz Gymnasium in Berlin. His probationary year began on April 1, 1914 at the König-Friedrich-Schule in Friedrichshagen , where he was appointed as a study assessor in 1915. At the First World War, he did not participate. In 1917 he was with the dissertation Quaestiones Statianae Dr. phil. PhD . On April 1, 1919, Fiehn was given a permanent position as a teacher at the Städtische Reform-Realgymnasium in Tempelhof . On October 1, 1932, he moved to the Askanisches Gymnasium , where he worked until shortly before his death.

Fiehn was born with Dorothea Geyer, a daughter of the Oberhof building officer Albert Geyer (1846–1938), married. His monograph “History of the Berlin Palace 1443–1918” (Volume I 1936, Volume II 1992) received great attention in connection with the reconstruction plans for the Berlin Palace. Karl Fiehn worked in phases on the review of Volume I and the posthumous manuscript of Volume II of his father-in-law.

Towards the end of the Second World War , Fiehn was drafted into the Volkssturm . He fell in the spring of 1945 near Angermünde .

In addition to school service, Fiehn was scientifically active. He dealt intensively with Middle Latin poetry and the history of antiquity. In addition to essays and literary reports, he has written numerous articles for the Realencyclopadie der classical antiquity (RE).
