Katja Sporn

Katja Sporn (* 1970 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German classical archaeologist .

After graduating from the Kronberg-Gymnasium in Aschaffenburg, Sporn studied classical archeology, philosophy and ancient history in Heidelberg , Athens and London from 1989 to 1997 . In 1998 she was in Heidelberg Tonio Holscher with the work sanctuaries and cults of Crete in classical and Hellenistic times his doctorate . In 1998/99 she received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute .

From 2000 to 2002 Sporn was a consultant at the Athens Department of the German Archaeological Institute , from 2002 to 2007 assistant at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Cologne . Sporn is particularly concerned with the sanctuaries and necropolises of ancient Greece . It is part of several research projects in Greece, including the publication of the finds from the sanctuary of Aphrodite and Hermes in Kato Symi Viannou on Crete and the Demeter sanctuary in Oaxos . She directs the excavations in the sanctuary of Kalapodi .
