Florens Felten

Karl-Florens Felten (born December 25, 1941 in Munich ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Florens Felten was born in 1971 at the University of Munich with a thesis on the subject of Thanatos and Cleophon painter. Doctorate in white-ground and red-figure vase painting from the Parthenon period . From 1991 to 2010 he taught as a full professor for Classical Archeology at the University of Salzburg , where he was also head of the Department of Classical Archeology . From 2003 to 2007 he was dean of the Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences. From 1989 to 1998 he took part in excavations in Messene , since 1967 in Alt- Aegina , where he was excavation director together with Stefan Hiller from 1992 to 2010 and has published a large number of articles. Felten supervised more than 30 diploma theses, 20 doctorates and five habilitations. He translated several books by John Boardman into German and is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute . In 2012 he received the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st class.
