A milk frother or milk frother is a kitchen appliance for producing milk froth . The milk frother is available in different versions: As an electric version in which a kind of small whisk is set in rotation by a motor. There are also manual milk frothers, in which air is foamed into the milk by moving a sieve back and forth through the milk surface. With the latter, you have to wait about a minute until a firm milk foam forms.

In addition to these devices, there are also milk frothers in fully automatic coffee machines , such as the Pannarello , in which milk is frothed in a container using hot steam, and the Cappuccinatore , in which milk is sucked into the fully automatic coffee machine and then dispensed again in a finished froth.

This cappuccinatore is also available as a decoupled " stand-alone " device with its own steam generator. However, devices that suck in milk have the disadvantage that they should be cleaned from the inside after each use to prevent the multiplication of germs . Hoses and internal parts should therefore be removable and easily accessible.

Milk foam can be made from different types of milk, but the results can vary. Basically, whole milk , raw milk , low-fat milk (1.5%), fat-free milk (0.1%), soy milk or lactose-free milk can be foamed with the help of milk frothers.
