Milk permeate

Milk permeate is a liquid that is created when fats and proteins are withdrawn from milk . The remaining watery liquid still contains minerals, vitamins, lactose and some of the whey proteins in milk. The Milk Product Ordinance defines milk permeate as "the product that is created by the removal of milk proteins and milk fat from milk, partially skimmed milk or skimmed milk with the help of ultrafiltration". According to the Bavarian Consumer Center , products containing milk permeate can be consumed without hesitation.

Milk permeate is often to improve the taste in industrially produced Ayran included, which is, not allowed to replace the yogurt only the water content.
