Mildred Scheel Academy

The Mildred Scheel Academy for Research and Education, based in Cologne, is a training center for everyone who is confronted with cancer on a daily basis . It is named after the radiologist Mildred Scheel (1932–1985). The Mildred Scheel Academy for Research and Education was founded in 1993 by the German Cancer Aid . It is located in the Dr. Mildred Scheel House on the premises of the Cologne University Hospital , (Kerpener Straße 62 in 50937 Cologne). The sponsoring association of the academy is the Mildred-Scheel-Kreis e. V. with the chairwoman Cornelia Scheel . In 2017, she succeeded the CDU politician and scientist Dagmar Schipanski , who was appointed honorary president of the German Cancer Aid Foundation for many years .

Academy network

The “Mildred Scheel Academy Göttingen” started its work in January 2014 at the University of Göttingen . It forms a network with similar institutions in order to put further education and training opportunities in the field of palliative care on a broad, effective basis. The range of seminars is aimed at doctors, nursing staff, other professional groups and volunteer helpers who come into contact with palliative patients during their work. Other locations of these academies include Bonn, Munich and Dresden.

The current program

The Mildred Scheel Academy offers nationwide courses on topics such as creating free space and finding solutions, developing options for action, seminars for refreshing and expanding health training, medical fitness , self-help and public relations, art therapy in psycho-oncology , multi-professional basic courses such as palliative care for nursing and psychosocial professions .
