Mileiha ( Arabic مليحة, DMG Milaiḥa ) is a village in the United Arab Emirates in the emirate of Sharjah , near which there are several extensive archaeological sites from different time periods. Mileiha is one of the nine municipalities of the emirate, and had a population of 4,768 for the extension of the population as of December 12, 2015.
Neolithic
Several different sites were also discovered from the Neolithic period at Jebel Faya - a mountain that is 0.5 km southwest of Mileiha. These sites are being excavated by the Sharjah Archaeological Museum and a German excavation team from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .
Umm an-Nar
Several graves from the period of the Umm-an-Nar culture can be found southwest of Mileiha. One of the round, stone-built "grave houses" was reconstructed by the Sharjah Archaeological Museum at its site.
Pre-Islamic
Excavations in Mileiha first took place in 1973 by an Iraqi and since 1985 by a French excavation team. A local team has been digging here for several years.
The field of ruins extends over an area of approx. Four km² and dates from the third century BC to the third century AD. There were residential quarters with handicraft businesses, a fortress and grave fields with tower-like grave structures. There were models for coins that prove that coins were minted here. There is evidence of imports of Greek ceramics, but also many imported pieces from southern Arabia .
