St. Petersburg Military Law Academy

The St. Petersburg Military Law Academy ( Russian Александровская военно-юридическая академия / Alexandrowskaja wojenno-juriditscheskaja akademija) was an academy of legal training mainly for officers of the Russian army and navy .

The Academy was founded in Saint Petersburg in 1867 and was located on the banks of the Moika Canal along with other military facilities . In 1908 the Academy after its founder Tsar was Alexander II. In Military Law Academy Alexander renamed.

In 1878, during the Russo-Turkish War , an educational reform was initiated for higher education, with three years of study in three courses. Since 1880 officers from Serbia and Bulgaria have also been admitted to study.

Until 1882, a certain number of civil servants were also admitted to study.

At the time, this academy was unique in the world. The curriculum included the disciplines of law faculties at universities and was expanded to include teaching from the military laws of Russia and other countries.

Admission to the academy was preceded by a strict examination. Out of an annual number of eighty entrance exams, only fifteen were accepted. The best professors in Russia taught in their fields at the academy. The graduates held a. a. the careers of military defenders and military prosecutors.

In total, around a thousand students had been trained by the time the Academy was dissolved in December 1917 .
