Mina Al Arab ( Arabic ميناء العرب, DMG Mīnāʾ al-ʿarab  'Port of the Arabs') is a construction project in Ra's al-Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates .

Overview

Mina Al Arab is planned as a mixed area close to the coast and should include private villas, apartment buildings, resorts , shopping facilities in the form of a traditional Arab souq and a harbor on around 2.8 square kilometers of land and water . The area is located around 15 kilometers southwest of the center of Ras al-Khaimah .

The developer estimates the total costs at 10 billion dirhams (approx. 2.1 billion euros). In addition to 7 theme-oriented resorts, two eco-resorts are to be built on the edge of the remaining wetlands . In addition, a so-called Environmental Learning Center is to be built.

development

The Mina Al Arab construction project was officially presented on April 30, 2006 by the joint stock company RAK Properties, which is also the developer. The project covers an area of 3 km² in the southern half of Chaur al-Jazira . Chaur Jazeera is a lagoon which, in addition to wetlands, also includes several sandbank-like islands, separated from the Persian Gulf by a spit . In January 2006, the Chinese company China Harbor Engineering started the earthworks on the project, the lagoon was filled in and a canal was formed that runs through the project from east to west. The work was successfully completed in February 2008. In May 2007 RAK Properties signed a contract with the Emirati company Darwish Engineering to carry out the infrastructural work. The contract includes, for example, the construction of roads and bridges as well as facilities for wastewater treatment. The first villas in the Granada district have been under construction since spring 2007 .

At the end of 2008, the financial crisis was also clearly noticeable in the Emirates, so that RAK Properties had to admit in April 2009 that sales had dropped to zero in the 1st quarter of 2009.
