Mindan Recruiting Center to Support the South Korean Army in the Korean War (1950)
Mindan is an association of Koreans living in Japan who feel connected to South Korea . It was founded in Tokyo on October 3, 1946 and claims to have about half a million members (out of a total of 600,000–700,000 Koreans in Japan ).
The Mindan is the counterpart to Chōsen Sōren ( Kor. Ch'ongryŏn ), the association of Koreans living in Japan who have stronger ties to North Korea . These and Mindan compete bitterly with each other, with cultural and political events, with music meetings, folk festivals, home visits, tea rooms, restaurants and club bars, with newspapers, kindergartens and schools of all categories up to the university.
